Is the profile synced with a Salesforce Contact record?

No, Motivis Learning Community profile information is kept on the Community Profile object which is related to the contact object. The rationale for this is that not all institutions using Motivis Learning Community want to override or add to Contact object data. Having a separate object allows you to have more than one Motivis Learning Community profile (Student, Alumni, Faculty) for each Contact record. 

Profile information can be synced to the Contact record via custom workflow rules or triggers.
